The biggest problem people have with Tinkerboard when switching to mainline kernels is the lack of supported HDMI resolutions.
This generally result in a “TinBrokeBoard” .
I found this patch in LibreElec.tv patches list (they have MANY HDMI patches actually), and thought “That might be the one that enable more resolutions”.
The patch add more PLL configuration, so that the HDMI clock can meet the requirements for various other resolutions.
Unfortunately for me, I only have normal screens, so that needs to be tested by people who have like 4/3 screens, or VGA->HDMI, DVI->HDMI dongles and what nots.
Is there a RK3288 tester around here ? (´・ω・`)
send PR to Master please.
There's a few folks with tinker boards. Igor and I also have rock64 boards. Go ahead and submit the PR and I'll try to test my rock64 on my 4k screen tonight.
Is this far enough to be included in 20.05 ?
Well, yes.
That resolved a lot of issues for 2K and 4K screen users, and so far I don’t have any negative feedback.
The patches are still ugly (some patches correcting other patches) and should be merged with the previous ones. But besides that, it’s OK.
Alright, all the reports have been good, either on our PR ( ) or others threads ( ) so it has been merged.
Nobody was able to test it with a 1366x768 screen, so I consider this resolution to be very esoteric.
4K@60Hz pushes the limits of the hardware too far, so no 4K@60Hz for Tinky users.
