Armbian officially does not support TV boxes and development is done mainly by Oleg (balbes150). There is some tendency to bring branch upstream and we already tried once. Without any plan and that attempt ofc failed https://github.com/armbian/build/pull/1232
Then we forget about a bit and few months ago, Oleg came with some propositions and ideas to do something about since there are lots of cross posting, users are confused about support. Lots of question - we don't cover - lands outside forum TV boxes. Non-TV side mainly only move topics and posts there if they are open in general sections or chip bug tracker sections. But this is just a temporal solution.
There was also recently some users idea to do this, but I was not very happy to do all the work … people from the outside can’t do this without deep understanding of the problem. His motive was - to get rid of download from public servers, while for us this is not a small cost. Only to provide images for SBCs. So it is not something to just ignore.
We have to redefine our relationship, decide if we merge and see what we can do about?
Armbian mainstream has much better development support and has infrastructure, which is possible to share, but we don't want to extend end-support to fishy TV boxes hardware ...
How to solve this?
Without a plan and people that are familiar with internals is better not to start - we had a lesson once. We need a team on Armbian side (yet to be determined) and a team closer to Armbian TV boxes (need to be asked @balbes150 @jock @steeman @hexdump)
Then we meet and see what we can do about.
Users gets better value if we have one codebase. Not the same, but we can come up with something better as it is now.
Plan of executing
or explanation why we will not proceed on that.
